About  Fluivac

Fluivac, From Idea to Solution

In 2002, the idea arose to develop a product within the market in which Fluidor Equipment B.V. (hereinafter Fluidor) operates, which would eliminate the problem of product wastage in factories. Out of this, FLUIVAC first generation was born. Gradually, Fluidor received feedback from the market that FLUIVAC, in addition to product recovery, also provided large amounts of water and cost savings. In 2011, the 2nd generation of FLUIVAC was developed and built. Meanwhile since 2016, the 3rd generation of FLUIVAC has been operating at different food producers all over the world, where the machine helps to reduce waste streams, save water and thus contributes to a sustainable production process.

Conventional Methods

After the processing or production of a product, a pipeline network with all associated components (together referred to as the production line) from the starting point to the end point (often a tank or a filling point) is filled with product. This product is often usable for the next process step but can also be displaced and disposed of. Before a new production run can be run, the production line must be cleaned. Within the liquid food industry, there are various methods for recovering product and cleaning the production line.

Pigging

Pigging is a technique in which an object is pushed through a pipe system. The object pushes the product forward and is set in motion through the water (sometimes air) that is pumped up the other side of the pig. The object is called a pig and is made of food-grade materials.

A major disadvantage of pigging is that the system must be designed so that the pig can pass through everything. In systems with valves, pumps, filters, plate heat exchangers, etc., pigging is not an option. It is also a common problem that the pig is lost within the production line or that the pig breaks down.

The above disadvantage has been partially solved by a technique called "Ice pigging". Here an ice composition is pumped through a system (with water), which forces the product out of the pipe system. The ice composition is flexible enough to be pumped through different appendages. A disadvantage of Ice pigging is that it is only effective for relatively strong liquid and light liquids in smaller diameters. As soon as the diameter is increased and the product becomes more viscous, ice pigging becomes less effective. In addition, water may not come into contact with a product yet to be used.

Water Flush

It also happens that a product is driven out of a system by simply pumping water through it. However, it also often happens that products are no longer considered usable as a result.

Both the water is contaminated with product residues and the product is no longer usable, so it must be drained. When this happens regularly, the product and water wastage run up high, which can cause complications both in terms of sustainability and financially.

Among the methods given above, many use fresh/sweet water as a medium. The food industry is a major user of fresh/fresh water worldwide. In addition, significant amounts of usable product can be lost with conventional methods.

There is an increasing demand from the market for a sustainable technique for recovering product cleaning a production line and saving water .
